Grand Canyon North Rim - any advice and feedback?

We are staying on the North Rim at the Grand Canyon Lodge for three days in September. We chose this location as it seems less "developed" and is 1000 feet higher than the south rim. We love walking and exploring in nature, so chose to be away from the busier areas. Can anyone advice what to do and see while we are there and what tours may be available? We will have a hire car. We will have a hire car available, however we enjoy walking and exploring. I've been considering doing a RTW trip solo. I'm 33 and female. Does anyone have any experience or input? Also, I'm thinking about 5-6 stopping points. Does anyone know some cheap airfares for this many stops? Transiting the US

I'm transiting the US in a couple of months time on a flight from London to La Paz with a stopover in Miami. I have 9 hours between flights in Miami - is it going to be possible to leave the airport to go and explore the city or would I not be able to??
